Laurie has specialist expertise in employment matters and the related areas of privacy and human rights.  She advises both employers and employees on agreements, policies, legal compliance, entitlements, grievances and disputes.  Laurie has significant experience with employment mediations and has appeared in the Employment Relations Authority.  She keeps on top of the ongoing changes to employment law and regularly gives presentations on them.

Laurie also acts for clients in wider civil litigation matters.  Her approach combines strategy with pragmatism. 

Laurie joined FVM in 2026, having started her career at a large corporate firm in Auckland.  She moved to Nelson in 2022 to enjoy the region’s cycle trails, climate and wineries.
