Kate Mitchell

Solicitor, Local Government / Resource Management

Kate joined Fletcher Vautier Moore in April 2004 as a Solicitor within our Richmond Resource Management Team.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in History and Maori) at Canterbury University in 1997 and a Bachelor of Laws at Victoria University in 1999, she was employed by Kensington Swan in Wellington for almost three years in their Public Law Team. A move overseas saw her working in environmental law for a top London law firm over the next two years.

Kate then returned to Kensington Swan to specialise in resource management work along with Maori and Treaty issues, before she and her husband Carl returned home to Nelson, with Kate joining Fletcher Vautier Moore.

With a particular focus on coastal issues and the various legislation which relates to the coast including the new aquaculture legislation, Kate has a broad experience in dealing with resource management legal issues. She also has a special interest in resource management and local government law.

Kate has a number of other interests. She is a keen sportswoman and plays touch rugby and netball competitively. She also enjoys theatre, music and good wine. Kate currently works part-time for Fletcher Vautier Moore, while caring for her daughter Maia.
