Nick Moore
Partner, Conveyancing
Nick's family have been practising law in Nelson for 130 years. A fourth generation lawyer, Nick found he was expected by his peers to act as legal counsel from the age of seven. He says his experience taught him that the practice of law is very much a matter of applied common sense.
As head of the Conveyancing Team at Fletcher Vautier Moore, Nick joined the firm in 1978, and was made a Partner in 1983. He specialises in land purchases, financing, trusts and succession planning.
A devoted student of history, Nick and his family live in historic Washbourn House, one of Richmond's finest old homes, surrounded by the renowned Washbourn Gardens, which remain in community ownership.
His wife, Deborah, is a Clinical Psychologist and together they have a large family of five children. Nick says that his greatest concern is the prospect that the four younger children will carry through with their announced intention of following him into the legal profession.
Nick identifies his primary mission in law as being the early identification and neutralisation of potential sources of conflict. He draws an analogy with the medical profession in saying that it is preferable to avoid a problem rather than having to cure it.
