Nelson/Tasman Region, New Zealand
The Nelson and Tasman regions are consistently listed in the statistics as being the fastest growing regions in the country, no other region in New Zealand being able to match this unprecedented growth for the last decade.
The region boasts the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand and, as a result of these climatic conditions, is able to support a diverse range of business activities such as aquaculture, farming, tourism, forestry, viticulture and horticulture.
Providing a gateway to three national parks, the Nelson/Tasman coastline is one of turquoise waters, golden-sand beaches, and majestic mountains that embrace stunning inland lakes, lush native bush and wide fertile plains. Such a rich combination attributes to the top of the south's growing reputation for producing some of the best wines and olive oil in the country.
Nelson - a creative paradise
Nelson is home to the 'Arts', with a growing reputation for hosting significant cultural events such as The World of WearableArt Awards and the Nelson Arts Festival. Over 300 craftspeople draw their inspiration from the Nelson surroundings, and give this region its ambience of creativity. Many of these artists work from studios at home and their work can be seen at a variety of city galleries or live markets.
Due to a growing tourist reputation domestically and abroad, we find many visitors are attracted to move here permanently, migrating from Europe, England and the United States of America, creating a vibrant and growing economy that supports all the facilities of a modern city.
Mixing lifestyle with work and school
Fantastic lifestyle opportunities and a wonderful climate are not the only factors drawing people to the region. Excellent sporting, primary and secondary school facilities are available, as well as a sizeable Tertiary Institution (Polytechnic) offering a wide range of courses from continuing education through to undergraduate degrees in Commerce, Information Technology, Nursing and Arts.
Our communities are safe, friendly and welcoming. One of the downsides to the popularity of the area is the cost of housing and a low level of rental accommodation which can have a significant impact on people wishing to move to the region. Building consents, however, are still increasing and further investment money will assist in addressing the rental accommodation issue.
Before considering a move into the area, we recommend registering with Homefind or alternatively one of the many local real estate agencies which also provide rental accommodation services.
